Responding to the Government’s announcement that it will not be proceeding with proposed changes to qualification for the Daily Living Component of the Personal Independent Payment (PIP);

Carers UK’s Director of Policy, Emily Holzhausen said:

"We are pleased that the Government will no longer be going ahead with its planned changes to the  PIP disability benefit. Reducing entitlement to PIP would have hit many with a disability hard and, because PIP is a ‘gateway’ benefit for Carer’s Allowance, reducing disabled people’s ability to claim PIP would also have had a disastrous knock on impact for many carers. Carers and their families will be relieved that the Government has changed direction on this issue.

In considering any further changes to disability benefits, it is essential that the Government carefully considers the impact on the independence and wellbeing of disabled people and on the carers supporting them.”
