The first Wales Hub Employers for Carers (EfC) Networking Event was held on 18th October 2018 in the centre of Cardiff at Sports Wales, Sophia Gardens. This inaugural event included a mixture of existing EfC members with a Welsh presence, new Wales Hub members and employers across Wales interested to learn more about EfC and how to implement carer friendly practices. Our Autumn EfC members’ event, hosted by Credit Suisse in Canary Wharf, focused on the theme of employee networks, and how they can support carers in the workplace. In line with the theme “Network to network: Sharing the learning” a lively updates and discussion session was followed by informal networking and an opportunity for members to share stories with one another. This EfC members’ event was the second of the year and was hosted by Mercer at their UK headquarters at Tower Hill. This well attended event included in depth discussion and sharing of best practice on our theme “Supporting carers to be healthy and connected in the workplace” followed by networking with spectacular views across the Thames. This EfC members event was our first of 2018, and was hosted by Nationwide at their offices on Threadneedle Street. This third annual EfC members’ event on the theme of "Carers networks: Factors for success" was hosted by KPMG at their landmark offices in Canada Square, and was very well attended again this year. With wonderful hospitality provided by our hosts, the event provided an opportunity to discuss examples of latest initiatives to support workplace carers networks and identify the critical factors for success. The EfC summer networking event on 28th June, kindly hosted by Transport for London (TfL) at their modern offices in Southwark, was a great opportunity to hear about the range of activities held, and initiatives launched, by our members during Carers Week. Our most recent members’ networking event was hosted by Nationwide on Wednesday 15th March and followed on from our event in March 2016 (also hosted by Nationwide) where we discussed how helping line managers to be aware and supportive of their team members who have caring responsibilities can help deliver motivated teams and business results. One year on, the theme continued as the focus moved to the importance of gaining top-level support to champion the needs of working carers and how this can transform workplaces and empower line managers. Our networking meeting in October is now an annual event, hosted by KPMG, dedicated to workplace carer networks. This event built on the 2015 event which focused on starting carer networks.
