Following on from the success of our national virtual workshop in September, we held six regional roll-out sessions over the course of October and November for: London and South East; South West; Midlands; Yorkshire and Humber; North West; and East and North East. Each session was kicked off with a spotlight on the newest and most relevant resources available to members. We were keen to highlight MyBackUp and Carer Aware, both of which are really helpful resources for carers, especially during this period of enforced isolation for so many.
An interactive discussion was then facilitated to give members and non-members alike the opportunity to share practical experience, with a focus on challenges and opportunities afforded by the ongoing pandemic. A recurring theme across most of the sessions was the challenges of engaging people who cannot access, or choose not to use, technology. The importance of one-on-one communication was discussed, as well as building confidence around digital devices.
Every workshop brought to the fore some interesting and innovative ideas, from Zoom yoga to advertising on local buses, and we hope that everyone who attended came away feeling inspired! It was great to hear about the wonderful work going on up and down the country, and we are aware that many of the attendees from each session have gone on to set up their own groups to continue the discussion and keep sharing information.
