Yesterday (July 26 2012) the Olympic torch continued it's procession through the streets of London. One of yesterday's torch bearers was Sharon Coleman, a carer who in 2008 won a landmark legal battle to prove she had suffered discrimination because of her caring situation.
Â
Carrying the torch is consisdered a great honour and we can think of no one more deserving of that honour than Sharon. Her fight centred on the fact that although not disabled herself Sharon had suffered unfair treatment at work because she had a disabled son. Despite the obvious difficulties Sharon perservered and took her case all the way to Europe. Her fight would eventually lead to new rights for all carers.
