Employers for Carers Members Networking Event:
Managing in the middle: Line management support for working carers
Tuesday 13th March, London
Our next Members Networking Event will be taking place in the evening of Tuesday 13th March and is kindly being hosted by Nationwide, in London.
Building on the success of two earlier events on this theme (on manager support ‘down the line’ and ‘up the ‘line’) this year’s event will focus on raising awareness of caring among managers throughout the workplace, including what is sometimes called the ‘sticky middle’. It will explore practical ways of supporting line and middle managers to implement carer-friendly measures in their teams, including both short-term actions to achieve ‘quick wins’ and longer-term measures to help create sustainable culture change.
We know through our work with EfC members and wider evidence gathering that supporting line managers to implement an open and flexible approach achieves benefits for the business as well as for employees. This event will discuss how helping line managers to be aware and supportive of carers among their staff has also helped deliver empowered teams and improved business results. Examples of dedicated (carer focussed) support for line managers, such as toolkits and training resources, will be identified, along with instances where caring has been included in wider management initiatives.
We will also update members about a ground-breaking (UK and global) Economic and Social Research Council programme on Sustainable Care led by the University of Sheffield, in which Carers UK is involved, and in which combining work and care is a major theme. We will also share insights from a Government funded Carer Passport scheme initiative, in which we have participated, along with latest news on EfC service and resource enhancements.
